A very cool new paper has just been accepted for publication! I did this research in collaboration with Lindsay DiMarchi, a PhD student at Northwestern University, and Jax Sanders, a physics professor at Marquette University. We explored the possibility of detecting Thorne-Zytkow objects with gravitational waves, modeling their gravitational wave signatures and finding that these objects should be detectable with Advanced LIGO! We also explore possible future targets for carrying out multi-messenger searches to find TZOs; some of these could be as close to home as the red supergiant clusters near the center of our own Milky Way!
The paper is now in press with the Astrophysical Journal, and you can check it out on arXiv!
