Today is the release date for a twenty-four lecture course series that I recently filmed with The Great Courses! Titled Great Heroes and Discoveries of Astronomy, the course explores some of the great discoveries that have shaped astronomy over the past century—and who’s responsible for them. From groundbreaking new theories to serendipitous observations, from engineering the world’s largest telescopes to designing bold new ways to detect gravitational waves, the course takes a tour of astronomy’s evolution in small steps and incredible leaps and introduces viewers to the many heroes that made this knowledge possible. The course also explores what it means to be a scientific hero and the value of enthusiasm, determination, hard work, collaboration, and service in the field of astronomy.
